Bluetooth Networks: How They Are Able To Do What They Do Bluetooth networks are nothing new and they have been on the scene for quite a while now.
Users of handheld computers (such as my iPaq) adopted the technology more quickly, as it allowed us to easily attach portable keyboards, headsets, printers, etc. At this time, Bluetooth products for these two markets are local versions that are not interoperable with the international versions which implement the full range. As a matter of fact, a piconet is any such Bluetooth network with one master and one or more slaves. This means that every 625 usec the channel will hop to another frequency within the 2402 to 2480 MHz range. About_Bluetooth Implementing security, even for these types of device pairings, can prevent an unauthorized user from using the headset. Each piconet has a unique hopping sequence which is determined using an algorithm the uses the Bluetooth device address of the master device. The simplest scheme is when only two devices are involved. This means you have no centralized point of security control, as you do with a WAP (for example, you can configure a WAP to use MAC address filtering and other built-in security mechanisms). About_Bluetooth The Bluetooth specifications are developed and licensed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). This ad-hoc network is referred to as a piconet. The technology is useful when transferring information between two or more devices that are near each other in low-bandwidth situations.
“Oh, yeah, I think that’s built into my laptop but I never use it” is a common refrain. About_Bluetooth Bluetooth protocols simplify the discovery and setup of services between devices. Frequency hopping has been implemented to reduce interference and fading. The range for Bluetooth transmissions varies from about 1 meter up to 100 meters, depending on the power class of the device. This makes using services easier because more of the security, network address and permission configuration can be automated than with many other network types. About_Bluetooth to our portable devices (which often don’t have a bunch of connection ports like desktops and laptops do). Bluetooth devices can interact with one or more other Bluetooth devices in several different ways. Because the two piconets are so close, they have overlapping coverage areas. A diagram of a piconet is provided in Figure 1. About_Bluetooth A parked device remains synchronized to the master clock and can very quickly become active and begin communicating in the piconet. There can be additional slaves which remain synchronized to the master, but do not have a Active Member address.
, with a Bluetooth headset) or byte data with hand-held computers (transferring files). This is referred to as point-to-point. About_Bluetooth In addition, these time slots can be reserved for synchronous applications such as voice data. These slaves are not active and are referred to as parked. In recent months there has been a large increase of new papers concerning modifications to or analysis's of the Bluetooth Radio System. Currently there is no profile specified which elaborates how intersecting piconets can communicate. About_Bluetooth It can connect several devices, overcoming problems of synchronization. However, another use of Bluetooth is to create a temporary computer network. Thus, if you own a BT-enabled phone, it’s important to keep the software updated or upgrade to the latest phone models frequently.5 to 2483. About_Bluetooth Bluetooth was designed to allow low bandwidth wireless connections.
